About Community Living Association

A nonprofit healthcare organization dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities across Aroostook and Penobscot counties in Maine.

Who We Are

Community Living Association (CLA) is a nonprofit organization that has been serving people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Maine since 1967. We are the second largest employer in Houlton, with more than 160 employees providing services to over 270 individuals.

Our work spans residential care, community case management, employment support, community supports, shared living, and supported independent living. Every service we provide is built around one goal: helping people live full, independent, and dignified lives as valued members of their communities.

"The purpose of Community Living Association is to involve community and family in promoting the highest quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by assisting them to be independent, self-confident, and valued members of the community."
